Week 15: San Diego Chargers

December 23rd, 2011

Last week was the Lion’s won in comeback fashion one of the most amazing games in recent Lion’s history. Down 27-14 with less than 5 minutes left Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson mounted one of the greatest comebacks in Lion’s history, yes I will say history because frankly this team hasn’t had breaks like this. . . ever. Calvin Johnson went over 200 yard receiving and would  haul in the game winning touchdown with 39 seconds left giving the Lion’s the 28-27 victory.

This game was huge in so many ways but most importantly it put them only one victory away from earning their first playoff appearance since 1999. To bad the Lion’s have to earn that win against the San Diego Chargers who have once again been the King’s of December and winners of 3 straight including an impressive 20 point win over Baltimore last Sunday night. This team is peaking at just the right time and now the poor Lion’s have to deal with offensive machine that is San Diego.

As much as I would love to see the Lion’s win this game and earn a spot in the playoff s for the first time  in over a decade I just don’t see it happening this week against the Charger’s. Phillip River’s is just that good and with a very good running game and stingy defense I think this team comes into Motown and puts a pretty good beating on this team. This is a team that you can’t start out slow against and unfortunately for the Lion’s this has been the MO all year.  I hate to pick against the Lion’s but I just don’t see a Christmas Eve win in their future.

Week 14: Oakland Raiders

December 16th, 2011

Last week the Lions needed an act of God to pull out a win against the hapless Minnesota Vikings a team that at one point they had down 31-14. Thankfully for them a missed face-mask on DeAndre Levy preserved a Lion’s victory and possibly saved a season.  The Lions played amazing for the first two quarters two bad there are  four quarters to a game as they disappeared in the second half.  But is doesn;t matter because the Lion’s won and are now 8-5 going into Oakland.

The Oakland Raiders are well the Oakland Raiders and the Lion’s have a great opportunity to win this game and move  one step closer to their first playoff spot  in 12 years.  This game has a lot riding on it and I think the Lion’s will travel four time zones and pull out victory.  The Lion’s have played amazing on the road this year they have a better road record (5-3) than home (4-3) record so I think the Lion’s will be up for the challenge and go into the infamous “Black Hole” and come out victorious.
