A Win is a Win

Monday, December 13th, 2010

It’s a win who cares if it was one of the ugliest games in recent memory, a win is a win. In a game that no one expected the Lions to win let alone be competitive, Detroit did the impossible and won a game that they never should have.

Also, for the first time in a long long the Lions made the plays to win the game and the Packers didn’t as dropped passes, penalties, and lack of a running game doomed Green Bay to their first loss to Detroit in 5 years. This win goes to the Lions-D who hassled Aaron Rodgers and Matt Flynn all day and held the Packers to a total of 66 yards on the ground. They also made the plays to help the Lions seal their 3rd victory of the year and possibly give a very faint glimmer of what this Lions D can be in the future.

This was a good win for the Lions as it snaps a 19 game losing streak to division rivals, but the Lions are still a bad team and for them to make any progress in turning the corner, they need to win 2 in row or a game on the road. Until this happens the Lions will continue to be a bad team that occasionally beats the teams they shouldn’t.

Pack Attack

Friday, December 10th, 2010

The Lions have 4 Games left and possibly 4 more losses to finish the year at a pitiful 2-14. This week the 8-4 Packers invade Ford Field and look to pound on a Lions team that has been besieged by injuries. In week 4 the Lions nearly beat the Pack in Green Bay for the the first time since 1991, but turnovers, bad coaching decisions, and defensive mistakes  cost the Lions the ball game.

Now in week 13 the Lions take on a Packer team that is much better than they were in October. Aaron Rodgers has the Packers rolling and I don’t see the Lions being able to keep up with a potent Green Bay offense that has only gotten better in the past weeks.

As happens every year the Lions secondary and defense has been decimated by injuries and with a depleted secondary and lack of LB’s the Lions look to be in for a long Sunday afternoon. Drew Stanton and the offense should be able to score against the Packer’s D but unfortunately not enough to win.
